Privacy Policy
The short version
WorldBrief does not collect personal data from visitors to this website. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no comments, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking cookies. The only personal data we hold is the login credential for our own social media accounts, which we use to publish our own videos.
1. Who is responsible
WorldBrief is an independent news-video project operated by a sole publisher based in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the purposes of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Contact: [email protected].
2. Visitors to this website
We do not set cookies, do not run analytics, and do not embed third-party trackers or advertising.
This site is served through Cloudflare, which acts as our content delivery and security provider. Cloudflare processes connection data — including your IP address, the page requested, and your browser's user-agent string — in order to route the request and protect the site from abuse. That processing is carried out on our behalf under Cloudflare's own terms, on the legal basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the site available and secure. We do not use that data to build profiles and we do not receive it in an identifiable form for any other purpose.
3. If you email us
If you contact us by email we will hold your message and address for as long as needed to deal with it, and then delete it. We use it only to reply. We do not add you to any mailing list.
4. Our own social media credentials
To publish our videos, WorldBrief connects to social media platforms including TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Bluesky, using accounts that we own. When the operator authorises one of those connections, the platform issues us an access token and a refresh token for our own account, and — in the case of TikTok Login Kit — the basic public profile of that account, which is the display name and avatar.
We store those tokens and that profile information on our own machine, in files readable only by the operator's system account. We use them for exactly one thing: publishing our own videos to our own accounts, and showing the operator which account is connected before a post is sent. We do not sell them, share them, or send them to any third party other than the platform they belong to. They are deleted when the connection is revoked.
5. Other people's personal data
Our videos summarise published news reporting, which frequently names public figures and describes real events. That is journalism, and we rely on the legitimate interest of informing the public, together with the exemption for processing carried out for journalistic purposes. We do not compile dossiers on private individuals, and we do not process special-category data about identified private individuals beyond what appears in the published reporting we are summarising.
If you appear in one of our videos and want it corrected or removed, email us and we will deal with it.
6. Data we do not collect
- No visitor accounts or passwords.
- No payment or financial data — we take no payments.
- No location data.
- No data belonging to third-party creators. WorldBrief publishes only for its own accounts, so no other person's platform credentials are ever requested or held.
- No advertising identifiers, and no data sold or shared for advertising.
7. Where data is held
Our credentials and operational files are held on a machine in the United Kingdom. Cloudflare's network is global, so a request to this site may be handled by a server outside the UK; Cloudflare provides the safeguards required for those transfers under its own data processing terms.
8. Retention
Platform tokens are kept while the connection is active and deleted when it is revoked. Email correspondence is kept while it is being dealt with. Published videos and their source references are kept as a publication record.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask what personal data of yours we hold, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict our processing of it, and to receive a copy of it. Email [email protected] and we will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
10. Children
This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data from them.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The effective date and version above will change when we do, and the current version is always the one published on this page.
